Designer Nadia Geller opens studio and market in downtown Arts District
Lisa BooneAfter years spent decorating more than 20 lofts in the downtown Arts District, interior designer Nadia Geller said she grew frustrated with the trendy neighborhood.
"It was missing a homey, eclectic shop," she said. "A store where someone could pop in and grab a gift on their way home from work."
Two weeks ago, Geller opened Nadia Geller Designs on Mill Street, just around the corner from the Daily Dose coffee house, the popular bistro Church and State and, across Matteo, the new gourmet market Urban Radish, set to open Saturday.

"We wanted to be surrounded by other artists," Geller said. "I'm a retail junkie at heart. My first job was at ABC Carpet and Home."
The new showroom is set up as a design studio with the back walls lined with fabric swatches and nine designers on staff. The market at the front features custom furniture and pillows, accessories by Los Angeles-based Noir Furniture, vintage accessories and artworks. The market also stocks soy candles, soaps, lotions and soft knit throws. The price points begin at just $4 for an old-fashioned book of matches to $480 for a Dash & Albert rug.
Geller said she can fabricate anything -- headboards, sideboards, sofas -- in Los Angeles with just three to four weeks turnaround. The hand-dyed custom sofa shown above is $3,000, but lower-priced options are also available. In addition, Geller said her interior design clients will receive a discount on all market items.
